Brass Instrument Lessons
Brass is a wind instrument like the French horn or the trombone, that is played with the vibration of the mouth and lips on the mouth piece. The sound is changed by adjusting the valves or the slide on the instrument. By moving the valves or the slide, you can vary the pitch and length of the notes.
Brass instruments are one of the strongest in an orchestra. Brass is not a large section in the orchestra, but there is a full range of sound and variety that is produced. They can be a leading part of a piece performed, or just the support thus making brass a very important part of the entire group. In brass lessons, the student will learn the benefit of excelling alone or in a group. Learning a brass instrument prepares the student to become an integral part of any piece.
In your lessons in brass, you will learn that learning a brass instrument takes practice. Our experienced brass teachers will teach you the proper technique for playing your brass instrument. Our trained brass teachers will make sure you start out feeling comfortable with the instrument.
The main element taught in brass lessons is correct breathing. Learning to breathe, inhale and exhale properly is most important. You need to do breathing exercises, sitting in the proper way in order for your chest to fill completely but at the same time, your shoulders need to be relaxed. This many seem like an easy exercise, but without the proper guidance, it can be done incorrectly. Your breathing should be done in a slow, full manner so you can produce the proper sound that is the correct duration.
Once you have mastered breathing, then you need to hold the instrument properly in your mouth. Your tongue must be in the proper place, against the top of your mouth and behind your teeth. If you do not hold your tongue in the right position, it can cause the air flow to slow down and you cannot play correctly. Once these two techniques are mastered, then you can concentrate on playing music.
From your first brass lessons, your teacher will help you to develop good habits. If for some reason you have a difficult time mastering the technique, your teacher will focus on your strong and weak points and show you how to develop the skills needed to overcome your more challenging technical obstacles . Our experienced brass teachers will enable you to learn the basics. Without the basic foundation, the type of music you produce will be disappointing. As with any instrument, you get what you put into it and guidance is most important. It could make all the difference in the world and help a student excel.
